4G18 Engine
The 4G18 engine, developed by Mitsubishi in 1996, is a SOHC engine. New models from joint venture brands rarely use SOHC designs. SOHC engines generally have lower manufacturing processes and costs than DOHC engines. The 4G18 engine has been produced in China for 10 years. Due to its compact structure, high power, and fuel efficiency, it is now widely used in many domestic Chinese models. Compared to other similar 1.6L engines, the 4G18 engine is smaller, easier to install in the engine compartment, meets lightweight requirements, reduces overall vehicle weight, and improves acceleration and off-road capability.
4G18 vs. 4G13 Engines
Actually, apart from the displacement and power output, they are identical. Both are older Mitsubishi engines with low costs. Many low-end domestic Chinese models use these two engines. These engines are technologically mature, and maintenance costs are relatively low, making them very cost-effective.
